Hello all. If you’ve not read, the live episode imploded extraordinarily badly. So this isn’t that. No records were kept, and I’ll be scrubbing my mind with the eraser once I’ve written this sentence.
Wow. I wonder why I did that? Could it have been so bad?
Oh well.
Anyway…
Here’s an episode. We’ve got Mark, Smoo and Anna, but with no DexX we’ve been forced to shanghai Fraser “Guestyman” Allison from RKD. Who we won’t link to, because their site is down. Instead, here’s a kitty! Yes, I suppose you could also follow Fraser on Twitter. He’s @heresathought.
So, cue sheet.
0:01:00 Freeplay discussion. Where we talk about Stephan Schutze, that 14 year old kid, the playful program, Whisperous, The Swapper, Bubble, Once Upon a Spacetime, Antichamber, Mark being a bit of a prick…
38:01 Deus Ex Human Revolution52-ish Glitch
59:55 Mass Effect 1 & 2
1:15:41 Leaning Games
Oh, and we should mention that there’s this on, partly as a response to the panel which went wrong. Should be interesting…

Good show people, really good. I can’t really comment on the Freeplay impressions stuff but if you guys could provide some links to how we could check out the devs’ work or give some attention to that upcoming women + games preso that would be great.
I started Mass Effect on New Years Day and almost turned it off after the same amount of time Anna did. I am glad I stuck with it though blah blah – however, I’ve now finished all the DLC in Mass Effect 2 and I am actually a bit sick of it all. I think I need a break and I’m glad the third game isn’t out for a while.
How come everybody (except this site at least) keeps calling Deus Ex Human Revolution ‘Deus Ex’? Kinda grating but no big deal.
I might actually start up my Steam copy of Dragon Age Origins if you keep plugging it too!
Thanks for the feedback Leigh.
I’ve added links to the various games we discussed at Freeplay in the post above. Unfortunately I could’t link to the ‘Mark being a bit of a prick one’ as you just need to listen to most podcasts for that (hi Ak).
As for your question from the older thread, sorry we missed that. I’ve added it to the runsheet for the next episode and we’ll quiz Anna on it and discuss it further.
Cheers.
I usually listen to Gametaco at the gym, I have to admit Mark does get the blood pumping that little bit more.
It;s a bit (or exactly) like dragging up dead forum threads but with a developer on your podcast as a regular can someone help me with my query here – http://www.gametaco.net/2011/08/live-show/#comments
I’m still confused
Good episode, all. Some interesting back-and-forth in there.
I just wanted to lampshade a section of your podcast, the part about great intros. I forget where i read this study, (maybe The Age…?) but it basically stated that people who were told the ending of a movie before watching it were more likely to stick with it then people who didn’t know. Which fits extremely well with the those great intros you mentioned.
In Half Life were you just knew that this facility was going to go to crap it was just a matter of when. Batman AA, just waiting for Joker’s hammer to drop, and Bioshock seeing the whole city in its flawed majesty but know you are going to scratch away the surface of it to expose its rusted underbelly.
It’s giving your audience a little more information then your main character, but not enough for you to disseminate what is going to happen. It sets up the environment for tension to grow, like a literary fungus.
